Deacon James Hamilton
A native of New York, Deacon Jim and his wife, Dorothy found their way to Ocala and Our Lady of the Springs, in 1992.
Deacon Jim has served his church since early youth starting as altar server, and progressing onto CCD instructor, minister to homebound, member of the Vicariate Council, the Cardinal’s Pastoral Council, and wherever else his pastor asked him to serve.
Following graduation from Mt. St. Michael Academy he was called to serve Uncle Sam, was wounded in the European Theatre and was evacuated to a hospital in England for recuperation. Recalled during the Korean Conflict, he was trained in atomic warfare.
His ambition was to become a member of New York’s Finest, but an injury during his time of service washed out that hope.
Following his studies at Fordham University he went into the business world, until his retirement, as business manager for a not-for-profit organization whose focus was serving children born with drug addiction, HIV and AIDS.
Always active in volunteer work, he met his wife at the VA Hospital in the Bronx where they escorted patients to Mass every Sunday.
Deacon Jim studied for the diaconate at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, NY and was ordained at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on May 24, 1986. He serves Our Lady of the Springs in the area of pre-marital preparation, parental baptismal instructions, annulment procedures, ministry to the sick in the hospitals and nursing homes, and communion services. |
