Father George Maniangattu,
Parochial Vicar
of Our Lady of the Springs
Father George was born in India on April 4th, 1964. His parents belong to the ancient St. Thomas Christian Community. After graduating from high school, he joined the Good Shepherd Minor Seminary in the Diocese of Palai, Kerala, India. He had three years of studies in the minor seminary and then was sent to St. Thomas Major Seminary for his philosophy and theology studies. He obtained degrees in philosophy, theology and art. He was ordained a priest on December 27th, 1989.
For ten years, Father George served as the Parochial Vicar in five parishes before being assigned to go to the mission in the Caribbean. He worked as assistant administrator and acting administrator of the Holy Family Cathedral in Antigua and Barbuda, but served in many Caribbean countries including Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Tortolla of the British Virgin Islands. This year he was accepted and welcomed to work in the Diocese of Orlando.
His uncle, Father Joseph Maniangattu, who worked in the Diocese of St. Augustine for 23 years as Pastor and Chaplain of the Florida State Prison and Mental Hospital, is now retired and living and serving Christ the King Parish Community in Citra of the Diocese of Orlando.
Father George’s mother died on April 29th, 2005, and his father, two brothers and three sisters are living in India. Father George comes from a family of 16 priests and 17 nuns. Four of the priests are now working in the United States. His mother is closely related to Blessed Sr. Alphonsa who will be canonized a saint next year. Her Feast Day is July 28th.
